Description:

The Penguin Tetra is also known as the Hockey Stick Tetra due to its unique colouration down the side of its body and into its tail. They are a beautiful fish and like other tetras enjoy living in a school of at least 6 fish and will get along with nearly all other similar sized tank mates. They enjoy clear water, though can live in blackwater habitats if the transition is a slow one.


Origin:

Originally comes from the Upper Amazon River Basin and Araguaia Rivers in Peru and Brazil, South America.

The Penguin Tetra are a hardy, schooling fish that go well with a variety of other small community fish like tetras, rasboras, catfish and loaches. You should be careful keeping them with other boisterous species of fish or larger fish as they can outcompete these tetras for food.

Habitat:

These tetras enjoy an environment with slow water movement that is heavily planted and has a good mixed of various rocks and root systems. They are displayed best with a dark sandy substrate as this mimics their natural habitat best. Though they like planted tanks they are best kept with hard leafed plants are the soft leaved plants will likely become part of their diet.
